HISTORY:

Touring the Milky Way Galaxy, Bru Tusfors had fought every planetary champion and won. He always obeyed the local rules, and always fought bare handed against any opponent with any manner of weaponry.

On the world of Uxor, Bru Tusfors defeated their champion and, as always, was told of another "unbeatable" foe. On Uxor they regarded the Green Lantern of Earth as the most formidable foe. Hal Jordan had visited their world some months before and routed a legion of invaders. Everywhere on the planet, Bru Tusfors heard the natives praise the emerald gladiator.

The fighter grew angry hearing of the great hero and told his manager, Kory, that he wanted to go to Earth. Despite his objections, Kory relented and advance notice was sent by an "E-Projector", challenging the Green Lantern to a fight.

On Earth, messages formed in clouds and smoke, exciting the people of Coast City. The cosmos travelling fighter and manager teleported to our world and held a press conference, Bru Tusfors' name was changed to "Brutus Force" in anticipation of the fight. Green Lantern declined the challenge, he fought for justice, not entertainment. This further infuriated Brutus Force.

Seeing as how the hero would only fight crime, Brutus Force chose to become a criminal to force a fight. After a series of robberies, the two aliens eluded the police by teleporting away before capture.

The Coast City Chief of Police appealed to Green Lantern to end the crime spree by agreeing to battle his challenger. Believing Green Lantern would easily win, the police chief hoped to capture the criminals after they were defeated.

The match was set at the Coast City Arena, with the proceeds donated to charity. Green Lantern tried to knock out Brutus Force as soon as possible but found this was easier said than done.

Firing off a ring-created emerald boxing glove, Green Lantern was surprised to see it deflected back at him. Brutus Force had fantastic speed and the amazing ability to counter any glove thrown at him.

The fighter switched to the offense, bending a ring-generated shield. Brutus Force threw a solid left at Green Lantern, the emerald gladiator let the punch go through, though it took massive amounts of will power to stay conscious. Green Lantern used the fraction of a second when Brutus Force was off guard to rebound back and forth between the ropes at superhuman speeds. The alien chose the wrong image to strike at, throwing himself off balance and leaving himself open for a tremendous uppercut. Brutus Force went out like a light.

Despite their crimes, the police were willing to let the alien duo go free. They had returned all the money they had stolen and promised never to return to Earth. Green Lantern felt no animosity towards his adversary and the feeling was reciprocated. Kory tried to console his fighter, accusing the Green Lantern of Earth of tricking him. Bru Tusfors would have none of it. The earthman had put up a good fight and had beaten him fair and square. Bru Tusfors considered the Green Lantern the greatest fighter in the universe and would fight anyone who said otherwise.
[GL2 # 39]
