HISTORY:

Kwo Varrikk was a Green Lantern for over 200 years. Early in his career he fought the Warlord K'runak K'ann and brought peace to a whole planet, the embattled Bloodworld.

He appeared to be quite successful as a Green Lantern, as can be witnessed by his last 24 hours of service. On Minos III, Varrikk prevented a hydro-train wreck. On Minos IV, he repaired the effects of a groundquake, saving the primitive people of that world. Over Balgus VI, he diverted a meteor shower. He even made the time to save a young child's kite on Elysium, the planet known two hundred years earlier as Bloodworld. As any Green Lantern, he had his limits. Varrikk regretted he could not settle a war between the Vrygothians and Krodarrans.

Nearing the end of his 24 hours, he travelled to Oa. There, he met his successor and gave him the power ring. Leaving the Citadel, a Guardian of the Universe asked if the long years of service had been kind to him, if he was truly happy. Varrikk nodded and smiled, "It was a beautiful kite" he thought.

'mouse note -

Although there's no way of knowing for sure, I think Kwo Varrikk may be the Green Lantern of Rojira (20th Century), an alien GL that Gil Kane had been drawing for years.

Looking through the letter columns, I see another fan had the same idea. The letter writer even suggested a sector number, 1177, based on the first appearance of the GL of Rojira (GL2 # 11) and Kwo Varrikk (GL2 # 177). Len Wein (the editor) put the matter out for a vote. As far as I know, the results were never noted.

As there's been little else said about the GL of Rojira, it would have been a nice touch.
