HISTORY:

The story of Symon Terrynce was told to Krista, one of the newest Green Lanterns, by a Guardian of the Universe. Krista had doubted the need to test Hal Jordan in a "psychodrama" to gauge his abilities. The story was to illustrate to Krista how a Green Lantern's life was a series of continuous tests.

Symon Terrynce was an outcast on his homeworld of Tanjent. On his world, the population had psionic abilities, including precognition, telepathy, and molecular reconstruction. The children on Tanjent would use their telecreative abilities to alter molecular structures to create life. Anyone on Tanjent who could not measure up to their responsibilities and the required intelligence would be considered a parasite, and a threat to life. They would then be exiled.

Lacking in psionic ability, Symon Terrynce was shunned by his classmates in school. Disgusted by Symon, his father exiled him to Tanjent's moon. Though the moon would support life, Symon was alone.

A voice broke the moon's silence. It was one of the Guardians of the Universe. Symon Terrynce was brought to Oa. Despite his homeworld's actions towards him, his stand for life had impressed the Guardians. He was asked to join the Green Lantern Corps.

Symon Terrynce was assigned the sector of Tanjent. He adopted a mask to keep his former identity a secret from his family, who he could not face as a Green Lantern.

A small fleet of alien star cruisers were in Tanjent's orbit. Before Symon Terrynce could investigate their purpose, they were fired upon from the world below. The Green Lantern quickly neutralized the offensive capabilities of both sides. On Tanjent, Symon Terrynce tapped into the "groupmind", the linked minds of the entire planetary population. The people of Tanjent had been fearful of the alien ships that had hung over their city for six days. There had been no communication from the visitors.

Since the alien ships would not communicate with Tanjent, the Magistrate decided to provoke them. The ships had entered Tanjent's airspace without a statement of purpose, so he had ordered the military to open fire on the aliens.

Symon Terrynce was surprised at the Magistrate's appearance, it was, in fact, himself. He delved further into the groupmind to discover his parents had cloned a duplicate of their son from a skin sample they'd taken before his exile.

Angered by what he'd learned, the Green Lantern abandoned Tanjent. Symon Terrynce was halted by a Guardian who convinced the young man that the people of Tanjent had made a mistake in their treatment of those that were different. If the Green Lantern would not stop them, they would make a bigger mistake by continuing the attack on the cruisers.

He returned to see a new weapon unleashed against the cruisers. Squarejaws were launched to tear the alien ships apart. The Green Lantern was helpless against the heat seeking automatons because they were colored yellow. Symon Terrynce moved their targets to the planet below. The squarejaws were called off before they would destroy the city. He faced the Magistrate's wrath for allowing the aliens to land.

The visitors that emerged from the ship were not aliens, but people of Tanjent. They had been exiled for having telecreative powers too weak to be part of Tanjent. The satellite they had been exiled to contained an alien observation point, with the purpose of invading Tanjent. The exiles attacked and defeated the invaders. They took the aliens' ships to return home.

They had defended Tanjent at their own risk, and believed the world belonged to them as much as those with telecreative abilities. The returned exiles demanded the right to stay.

The Green Lantern revealed himself as Symon Terrynce, and the Magistrate and the people of Tanjent accepted the exiles.
